Effectiveness Training for Teachers and Administrators
This is a three semester hour graduate course. In this course teachers and administrators will learn and practice the principles of effective communication and problem solving skills essential to creating self-motivated, self-disciplined students within a climate of caring and cooperation. The course will also assist teachers and administrators in promoting a "Win-Win" approach to teamwork and collaboration while working with students, coworkers, parents and community organizations. The course will show how to encourage empathy, compassion and cooperation. The development of empathy and compassion are essential to the development of a safe environment conducive to a spirit of collaboration. This course offers essential skills and understandings that:
• Model non-violent ways to resolve conflicts
• Develop good relationships in the classroom and school
• Assist urban teachers/administrators to be successful
• Show how to break the endless "Reward & Punishment" cycle
• Teach social & conflict resolution skills that encourage responsible behavior
• Provide effective "conflict resolution" skills
• Model the social skills necessary to use Cooperative Learning
• Improve teamwork with colleagues, administrators, family and friends
• Present the basic tools for Quality School and Site Based Management efforts
• Show how to stop the cycle of failure and poverty
The official graduate credit from National Louis University will show this course as "Teacher Effectiveness, # CIC-587F" It is understood that many administrators take this course to use these skills in administering their school to develop a spirit of collaboration and cooperation.
